Another libertarian for state torture

Bryan Caplan, of course, defending the Shah of Iran as a civil libertarian. But it’s OK because he feels good about himself.

Some photos from the paradise of civil liberties (warning: disturbing).

  1. How on earth is your reading comprehension so bad that you come away from that post thinking Caplan was defending the Shah?

  2. And how would you read a passage like “Strong on civil liberties, weak on economic liberties – it almost seems like American liberals should have liked the Shah.”? To say that a torture regime is “strong on civil liberties” sounds like defense to me. And it fits in with a general pattern of so-called libertarians, particularly the GMU variety, defending torture, see here for example.
